Architects Tudor Vlāsceanu and Ciprian Rășoiu recently designed the new headquarters of ING Hubs Romania, a company of the ING Bank group that deals with high-tech services. The new building in Bucharest hosts a mosaic work entitled “Looking Back to Look Forward” in the reception area. Vlad Nancă’s creation, made by the company Friul Mosaic, extends over 50 square meters in the reception area of the new building and develops as a work of art without borders, in which movement, color and suspension interact with the interior architecture of the building. The subject is inspired by Aleksander Rodchenko’s 1920 Spatial Construction No. 12, whose work resulted in a graph of planetary orbits as a cosmic structure. The three hands hold iconic elements, symbols of discoveries and technological developments that have changed history: in fact, they represent the first satellite of the Earth, Sputnik 1, the shape of an atom, theorized in the 19th century by John Dalton and Vanguard 1, the American satellite that was the first object to use solar energy. The artist Vlad Nancă talks about his work: “On the sides, five silhouettes look towards the horizon (or towards the visitor, it is not clear). Their bodies overlap, a way for me to underline the things we have in common, in an era of polarity and controversy… a metaphor of hope and optimism for a better future through technology”. In this metaphorical reference, the mosaic work represents the philosophy that animates ING Hubs Romania: technology can and should generate hope and optimism for a better future.
